The partiality of my correspondents attached more importance to my communications than they merited - they preserved my letters with a view which I never had in contemplation when they were written, and on my return they requested me to revise and publish them. I did so with such as were connected with an event in which the public were much interested - the advance of the Russians to Constantinople, as I had then just passed over the ground through which they were preparing to march.
