The Eurographics workshops have become an established forum for an exchange of information on the latest developments in this field of growing importance. Starting with computationally expensive graphics algorithms, several architectural solutions are given and contrasted to general purpose solutions. The main focus is the potential to exploit the options of VLSI designs for high-performance graphics systems. Contributions give detailed descriptions of realized systems for volume visualization, high-speed ray tracers, a two-pass radiosity solution, and highly efficient solutions of the anti-aliasing problem. The reader is given an in-depth presentation of the various systems a designer can now choose from, including transputer solutions and the Intel i860TM processor.
