If you like Elizabeth Von Arnim, admittedly an esoteric taste, then you'll love this book. It's the story of her life as told thru the lives of her dogs. It's very interesting to see how she does it. Her own life comes out around the edges of the stories she tells about the dogs she's owned and loved. Some event in her life happened. Sometimes, we're only told in a sketchy way what the actual event was, but, after that, she was given the dog named "Poochie" and here's what transpired, in his life and hers, during the time she had him.
The author's special way of telling a story, her humor and her strength, come through in this autobiography.
As I said, I know she isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I happen to think that she's a wonderful writer and highly recommend this book.

20th Century history from a dog lover
I read this book some years ago and now give it to other dog lovers. It is a personal history of Von Arnim's association with dogs beginning in the early 20th century. The reader not only is treated to a description of each of her dogs but is given a glimpse into what life was like for a woman during peace time and war.
