After seeing some of the Wallander TV series with Kenneth Branagh I went looking for the books, and An Event In Autumn was a random choice. It is, at best, thin and I think some of the blame can be laid with the translator who made it sound like an amateur wrote it. Fortunately, I gave Mankell another try with Faceless Killers which shows that the author has more depth (and a better translator). If you like Nordic mysteries, especially those by Arnauldur Indridason which are very similar, you will enjoy Mankell's books. But maybe not this one.
