In these live performances from 2017 and 2018, they emerge as a cohesive group worthy of rediscovery, even if Portland's Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall is no match for the Philadelphia Academy of Music, where Piston's symphony was premiered by Eugene Ormandy, and for which it was tailor-made.
