Voltaire's CANDIDE is a classic that still has relevance today. Many of the things that he satirizes are surprisingly modern. He doesn't spare criticism of his native France and also includes Britain, Holland, Italy and several South American countries. The naive protagonist Candide travels widely in search of "the best of all possible worlds." This idea has been planted in his mind by his tutor Pangloss. He also finds and loses his love, Cundegonde, and is finally able to reunite with her.
