This book is an easy read for someone 3rd grade and up, but a younger child would need to be a good reader to follow it closely. If you can draw, and already have your own paper and pencils, then this book is a terrific place to start learning how to animate.
DO NOT confuse Chris Hart's yellow Animation Studio BOOK with his purple PORTABLE Animation Studio Kit. The Animation Studio book is yellow with a purple dragon and castle on the cover, and it has a 2003 copyright. The Portable Studio Kit is purple with a dog and an artist dressed in red on the cover, and it has a 1996 copyright.
The contents of this yellow book is similar to the instruction manual in the purple Kit, but there are definite differences. The yellow book has less text in it than the instruction book in the purple portable kit. The yellow book has the flip book examples in the upper right corner of every right facing page, instead of the separate flip book in the purple kit. Both have some drawing tips, but the focus seems to be how to animate what you draw and bring the characters to life. Both are marvelous books and a great start for young beginners - some older beginners too.
