The authors discuss common clinical problems: difficulty in keeping one's balance, dizziness, or difficulty in walking. Symptoms like these are attributable to a host of different disorders of the motor system, the muscoloskeletal apparatus, the vestibular system, or even psychological imbalance, so the editors have taken an cross-disciplinary approach to the subject. Neurologists, psychiatrists, physiologists, orthopaedic surgeons, neuro-otologists, geriatricians, and physiotherapists have been recruited as contributors and encouraged to tread across frontiers so as to provide a multi-directional view of the various ailments.
