After submitting a short story for a competition from an ad in a movie magazine, he receives a letter from a Hollywood producer that he has won the contest, but must pick up his prize money in person by the specified date. With little more than his beat-up Dodge and his naive audacity, he sets out on a journey from his midwest home in the prairie lands to Los Angeles, California. Arriving to claim his prize on time proves to be nearly impossible, but he soon finds out that reaching his destination is only the beginning of the adventure-an adventure more wild than any movie Tuckie could have dreamed up.
