Parramon's perspective is a little different than my own, but his ideas and analyses are not simplified. Color theory is a lot more complex than a simple mixing of three primary colors to obtain the three secondary colors. Parramon illustrates the complexity of colors and color mixing; he does not oversimplify. His text is thought-provoking.

Understanding colour
Since first finding a book by Jose Parramon on drawing with charcoal and sanguine, I have acquired more books by this same author. He is an excellent teacher. With this book, once you have read the first chapters covering colour theory and understand that, you can dive into the chapters dealing with subjects that you are having difficulty with such as harmonizing colour, painting shadows, etc. You will end up reading the whole book anyway as it is so interlinked. It is a terrific book for a beginner learning to paint, it will teach you about colour and then become a reference book to keep you on track as you progress.
