In my first year of teaching 7th and 8th grade English, I used Warriner's and found it to be the finest textbook available. John Warriner has a way of making complex structural relationships in language clear and understandable.
Decades have passed since those early days of teaching. I became a college professor of English and Humanities. Now retired, I spend time writing articles and very often reach for my trusty, ever-reliable Warriner's.
I enthusiastically recommend the entire series of textbooks by John E. Warriner.

Great resource
I write, and I ordered this because Stephen King recommended Warriner's. It is by far the best grammar book I've ever seen. Everything is well explained, and there are a lot of helpful exercises. I've been using it to refresh my grammar skills, but it looks as if it would be great for initial learning.
