A world turned upside down...
In 1930 Stalin "collectivized" the Ukrainian farms in order to destroy the well-to-do peasant farmers. The result was mass starvation. A fascinating story told by one who lived through it, and a sobering study of the effects of hunger on the individual, family and community. It's a personal telling of the author's experience that documents history, and not just a book of tragic facts and figures. Very well written, leaving one to ask: "Could it happen here?"
