This is a very effective book for self-learners, there's minimum wastage of space. There are no lengthy grammar explanations - it shows you the grammar rules in their simplicity, gives you some examples and exercises, and thats it. The idea behind all the 'Gimmick Series' books is to show you the rules and then let you discover by yourself how to use them through the exercises. The vocabulary is quite large, about 3000 words. Obviously if you like alot of descriptions and lengthy explanations of the grammar this isn't the book for you. If you like to get into German as quickly as possible then this is a very good book to use. My edition was quite old so some expressions and words were old-fashioned.
