Good. Size: 8vo 8"-9" tall; Stated Second Printing, from April of 1925, the true First Edition having come out the month prior. A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy. Bound in blue cloth, sharper and more distinct gilt lettering to front cover, rubbed at spine. Forward cock to spine, bumping to, scuffing of spine head and foot. Previous owner's inscriptions inside front flap, neatly rendered, but who has added "An astounding drama of migration, with its sights and sounds crystalized." Foreword by William Beebe, Charles William Beebe (July 29, 1877-June 4, 1962), who was a pioneering "naturalist, ornithologist, marine biologist, entomologist, explorer, and author, " "remembered for the numerous expeditions he conducted for the New York Zoological Society, his deep dives in the Bathysphere, and his prolific scientific writing for academic and popular audiences" (Wikipedia). Augmented with sixty-four illustrations from photographs by Ernest Beaumont Schoedsack who accompanied the author, Merian C. Cooper on a documentary journey to accompany the nomadic pastoralist people the Bakhtiari, a very large "tribe" in anthropological terms of 50, 000 nomadic pastoralists who move their animal herds up and down and across various montane pastures. They made other doccos, too, singly and together, before eventually joining together in 1933 to write, produce and direct "King Kong! " The author became a movie mogul following its success and others. Now Ankara, Turkey, the lengthy trek traversed Turkey, Persia (now Iran) and modern-day Khuzestan. The eventual film was preserved by the Library of Congress, so great and fascinating was it, and the author and photographer were accompanied by Marguerite Elton Harrison Blake (1879-1967), who was an American socialite but also a geographer, spy, explorer and filmmaker. Early on, she founded the Children's Hospital School near Baltimore and, many decades later, the Society of Woman Geographers (Wikipedia). Frontis matter, xx, 1 [1], 2-362 pp. Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. A landmark enthographic documentary, Cooper and photographer Ernest Schoedsack accompanied the Bakhtiari, a tribe of 50, 000 nomads on their hazardous annual journey to bring their herds to pasture. The two collaborated on a number of silent documentaries before jointly writing, producing, and directing "King Kong" in 1933. With the immediate success of "King Kong, " Cooper became a Vice President of RKO Pictures. He went on to produce many notable films, as well as the first Cinerama presentation. The film, released in 1925, as *Grass: A Nation's Battle for Life, * follows the journey of the Bakhtiari, a poor nomadic tribe in Iran, as they herd their livestock up snow-covered mountain passes, to get to the grazing lands on the other side of the mountains before their animals die from starvation.
