The book starts with the basics and walks you through one step at a time downloading the Java Developer Kit from Sun Java. And it keeps up walking you through as you write and compile your first Java program. There is a CD in the back with several interactive demo programs. Very useful. You don't need to be a programmer with years of experience to use this book. The explanations are very clear. Good followup questions and problems in the back of each chapter. And, of course, answers to these study questions are in the back of the book. The only downside is that, in my opinion, there could be more study questions as some of the concepts are not covered. Would I recommend the book? I already have. Would I recommend it again? Absolutely. Good luck and have fun.
