HANDBOOK OF ENGLISH REVIEW is written for handy reference concerning the writing of correct English. Simple explanations are given concerning the use of the mechanical tools such as punctuation, paragraphing, capitalization, & usage. Without a clear understanding of these, adequate written expression is difficult. The section on grammatical analysis represents a lifetime effort to graphically illustrate correct usage. The author attempts to address the complexity of the language by stressing what is unknown to some people: a word functions according to how it is used in a sentence rather than by an arbitrary & inflexible system called parts of speech. Parts of speech are only a system that facilitates designating the role of any word in spoken or written expression. There are over one hundred diagrams in this section ranging from a diagram of a complete sentence using only one word to diagrams with many complex elements. The section on writing skills gives those key terms which are indispensable for clear writing, such as "thesis" & "central idea." The writer has published eleven of her own books, & writes as Kita Antonia. This paperback can serve at home, office, or school.
