The two Haydn concertos can regularly be heard in concert halls all over the world. These two works, however, have become largely Romanticized and subjected to performance with larger and larger orchestras. This recording provides listeners with as close to a period practice performance as could be hoped for, and the result is entirely captivating. The energy, lightness, and detailed nuance that Queyras and conductor Petra Müllejans achieve simply cannot be duplicated with the larger forces in more "modern" orchestras.
