The novel starts off well, and it gets really, really spooky and looks like it's going to have a good payoff. However, as the number of pages read grows larger and then larger than the number of pages left, it becomes more and more apparent that Joe had more a story than an ending and that he, like his dad has often done over the decades, suddenly realized that he only had a comparative very few pages to actually wrap the story up. So he did it, and it was unsatisfying, deeply. It really had what it takes to be a really good, really dark but poignant horror story with a conclusion that made the reader think about the speed of life, behavior, unintended consequences, and how we only have experience after we already needed it, but nope. -- It's well-written and really atmospheric, and it's also far too long and has a carelessly meh ending.

Spooky
This is Joe Hill's debut novel from 2007.
Simply put, it's one of the best ghost stories I've ever read.

Unique, terrifying
With a quick-paced plot and sympathetic characters, this is a ghost story for today's reader, about a burned out rock musician and the groupie who loves him...and a very angry ghost from his past.
I loved it, and couldn't put it down.
