Use old fabrics found in flea markets, or re-use a much-loved dress or curtain fabric - too worn for its original purpose but ideal for making a lavender-scented heart or patchwork throw for the bedroom. Alternatively, you can select from the great range of new 'vintage' fabrics that are now available, echoing the classic prints from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Christina has made the projects using a certain style of fabric but is at pains to point out that part of the beauty of handmade items is that you can make your own selection of fabrics to create unique pieces.
