No doubt many readers of the original text have discovered that Mr. Henry's translation is not entirely free from inaccu racies. These errors might have been corrected, and the translation republished, had it not been that serious difficulties as to the copyright arose, upon learning which I was induced to translate the whole book over again. I intended at the same time to bring the law contained in the Institutes as much as possible up to date; but, after some time and labour spent upon it, the idea had to be abandoned, as I found that it would take a long time to carry it out properly, and that Mr. Henry's translation was rapidly going out of print.
