There is a growing interest and concern about the effect of weak, low-frequency electromagnetic fields on biological systems and their implications for human health. In particular, it has been warned that the incidence of childhood cancers might be increased by exposure to such low-frequency fields, which are not uncommon in domestic environments. Indeed, several recent studies indicate that both children and adults living in homes near power lines or other electric transmission facilities may have an increased risk of cancer, and this danger has stimulated heightened research activity. Many of the contributors to this volume are leading authorities in their fields. Taken as a whole, the book provides a well-balanced overview of the experimental and theoretical work which lies behind the "cyclotron resonance" hypothesis, places it in the context of other evidence and theories, and indicates its relevance to the possible cancer risk from electromagnetic fields.
