The first four chapters treat the topics usually covered in an elementary complex variable course. The only significant departure is the introduction and occasional use of the conjugate coordinates z and Z, a very effective labor-saving device. The discussion of conformal mapping in Chapter 5 contains basic theoretical material and a derivation of the Schwarz-Christoffel formula as well as a detailed consideration of a number of individual conformal mappings. Chapter 6 gives an introduction to the application of conformal mapping to boundary value problems in electrostatics and two-dimensional fluid flow. Chapter 7 has additional topics. Exercises are at the end of almost every section.
