We were the last family in our area to have electricity. However, we were the first in our community to purchase a 1949 Ford sedan that my father proudly drove throughout the neighborhood. Gasoline was about 35 cents a gallon in 1949, which was a lot of money back then, but we drove that car for at least ten years.
