Seller's Description:
Very Good. 12mo. Fully bound in polished rose buckram with beige spine label. Tight binding and solid boards. Minor shelf wear. Slight bumping to corners. Scuffing to spine edges. Rubbing to boards. Sunning to spine. Much of spine label worn away. Bookplate engraved by noted Scottish painter and etcher, David Young Cameron. Hand-numbered to be 87 of a limited 129 copies. Clean, unmarked pages. Unclipped. Minor darkening to extremities of pages. Charles Meryon was a French artist, who worked almost entirely in etching, as he suffered from colour-blindness. Although now little-known in the English-speaking world, he is generally recognized as the most significant etcher of 19th century France. His most famous work is a series of views of Paris. The bookplate design is a stylized rendition of the crest of Catalani, an Italian family noted for their artistic influences. Alfredo Catalani, (1854-1893) was a noted operatic composer, best remembered for his operas Loreley and La Wally. This volume, relevant to various celebrated artists, and of a limited nature will make a fine collection piece. A sturdy copy in very good condition. Ships daily.
