The first two suites on this disc, the third volume from Naxos of his piano music performed by Miquel Villalba, show an indebtedness particularly to Debussy. Both Camins and Cants íntims II consist of mostly quiet, moody, intimate atmospherics, created with simple lines of music. Some are carefree, some are more pensive in tone, but all have a richness of translucent color. The harmony reveals them as Catalonian, more than the rhythms Blancafort used. The third suite here, El parc d'atraccions, was Blancafort's most popular work. It again is very colorful, but there is more liveliness and a sense of character in each of its movements, depicting attractions at a fun fair, whereas much of the other suites are gentle and still, with only occasional flashes of brilliance.
