One of the most often asked questions about programming is where do I start? I personally recommend "Microsoft WSH and VBScript Programming" in any setting working with any Operating System you will have to do maintenance on your systems and network. Although this book focuses on Microsoft products, the simularities between "Scripting" in other environments are very close to each other. Taking what you learn in this book, you will be able to understand and progress through other languages, such as: JScript, Perl, PHP. The sample scripts in this book and on the companion website are both useful and fun. Easily understandable without talking down to the reader, gives the begining programmer a sense of accomplishment. Troubleshooting skills, and the correct way to write programs, will carry you onto an exciting experience in programming without all the confusion. Thomson course technology books are written in a way that is understandable and common to all their books and subjects. New to programming, just want to learn, seeking clarification, this is an excellent starting book and well worth the money.
