This is an extremely well written book, it flows like poetry. This is a characteristic of Henry Beston found in his writing about country life. It without saying so is one man's method of finding a direction for himself in life. It is a method that can be done in bits and pieces for a longer period than the year he describes in this book. Most of us will have to do it in bits and pieces of course. Read and enjoy.

Environmental Wonder
Reading Beston's book was like going back to the early 20th century and knowing that environmentalists were better than we are today. He writes about an area I have visited and have come to love. If you love Cape Cod, in spite of all its bells and whistles, you will love this book. The Cape is still there, the one he writes about, and the thrill of the beach and the sea is as vivid in this book as it was when I visited. Nothing has changed. Good reading for ecology lovers!
