For this simple reason it is impossible for any book to treat in detail of every feature of the trade. Any writer who attempted such a task would have to 'travel widely. He would spend his life collecting information, and at the end he would be so conscious of the magnitude of the task, that it would probably be left incomplete. This is my only excuse for publishing the information which has come under my own immediate observation in the last few years. I am well aware that specialists will be able to point to omissions, but particulars regarding many branches of the woollen trade are so scarce in literature that a demand may well exist for such a work as this.
