If you want to start programming ray tracer I think that you can't find better resource about ray tracing. Its easy to read and its well organized perfect to read form cover to cover. Later when you read whole book an understood concepts you can implement advanced stuff, like filters, monte carlo methods etc.
If you just start learning ray tracing its the perfect book!!!
