If you like the War/Strategy genre, You will enjoy this one very much. I liked it for what it didn't have...politics. It seems every Vietnam war story deals with the "should we have been there" question, or the moral issues of how our boys supposedly indiscriminately and regularly killed civilians or the "war is hell on the homefront too" angle.
This book deals with guerilla tactics and likeable but realistic characters that focus on fighting the enemy. Heroism, strategy and planning dominate the story while Mack Gerber and his men struggle against the hardships of the jungle, the enemy and the climate of Southeast Asia.
Two vets that served "in country" and saw it all, write under the the name Eric Helm. They're not literary giants but, they are good storytellers and they are expert on this subject.
You probably will not remember this story for life, but, if you like this genre you will want to read all the books from the "Vietnam Ground Zero" series. (around 30 books)
