The over-arching theme of "the right to safety by design" of the vulnerable in today's urban society is the core concern of this book; sustainable transportation, built-form, and clean air are the main concerns that are intrinsically related to this central theme. The promotion of active transport has multiple health issues like cleaner air; integrated infrastructure in urban areas with an emphasis on bicycling and walking in conjunction with public transport; traffic calming; and equity in the community design with an increase in actual and perceived safety and an improvement in the environment.
