It raises the question of whether schizophrenia should be viewed as a disease that we really want to eradicate, or whether schizophrenia actually endows its sufferers with valuable qualities we should be nurturing - those who work closely with sufferes often report that they seem to have extra perceptions, empathy and sensitivity.
