One you think that someone who studies rhetoric would be better at communicating. But Gross consistently chooses the most difficult way to convey information. His thesis is interesting--rhetoric not only shapes the production of science, but can even be constituative of it. It really challenges the religious faith we give to anything presented as scientific fact. You'll learn interesting details about the process of making and peer reviewing science, and its dissemination. But all the work it takes to get through his dry, confusing writing doesn't add enough to the basic argument to be worth it. I'd say that it's definitely worth reading about this topic, because it's a fascinating new way of looking at our perceptions of science, but I'd try a different book, if there is one.
