I ordered this book for a class in college as a supplement to Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy by Corey. It was the best decision I made. Each chapter in this manual correlates to the main text, which is: Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy. The manual has been an asset to counseling techniques. The author Gerald Corey writes in a fashion as to increase understanding. He writes in a style that resembles a counseling session. His style is thought provoking and clear. He covers ethical issues that arise in the real world as well as an eclectic counseling style. This book covers the major counseling styles such as Psychoanalytic, Gestalt, Adlerian, Person centered and more. I highly recommend this book for any college student of psychology. Corey's incites in this book go beyond the scope of ordinary traditional education. He takes you through the realm of reality in counseling. This book is designed for student use both in its format and its clear, concise language. By way of definition between the theories, Corey includes a case study of "Stan" which each of the theories address through their own constructs in their various chapters. It is very good to see how each theory would approach "Stan" as a comparative basis. I also own another book for this class that was not required but has also been a great asset?Case Approach to Counseling and Psychotherapy by Gerald Corey. I have become an avid fan of Gerald Corey's counseling work and teaching techniques. He shows various comparisons, different situations and very clearly introduces methods to use.
