We dwell in a time ripe for confronting Islamophobia and in this book Kenneth Cragg provides helpful guidance for the journey of listening and discerning. Cragg's use of the English language can be a challenge -- having a dictionary handy may be helpful! -- but there are few more capable of enabling us to navigate the boulder-strewn landscape around those who purport "civilizations clashing" and to land somewhere on a more congenial plane of discourse between our faith communities. This book is best taken alongside other pieces by Cragg, and always the best starting point is his classic 1956 The Call of the Minaret. Certainly I commend this book for those who wish to glean some background on the historic setting and outworking of the Qu'ran and its impact on the Muslims of the world -- and those who sojourn with them in the path of discovery.
