The book was a nice fast read and with a good mystery. I would certainly recommended it for young readers. I liked the glimpses of the boys' life in the Castle, and the fortune-telling girl who joined them. However, I wondered why the Irregulars kept calling Holmes "Master" like they were his servants. As I recall, Wiggins merely called him "guv'nor" in the Doyle stories. And why were they hostile to Watson, accusing Watson of being jealous of them? Maybe he just didn't write of them more because Holmes told him not to, to protect them from kidnapping or attack? Speaking of injuries, I found it farfetched when one of the Irregulars had to stitch up another boy's wound, and yet the boy insisted on joining the case that night. It doesn't speak highly of Holmes's observational skills for him not to notice that one of his boys ought to stay home and be tended to by Watson. Finally, there were numerous hints about the parentage of one of the Irregulars, and it was a little frustrating when I realized that we weren't going to learn the details about that; I suppose it will be revealed in the next book in the series, though I'm not sure if I want to continue.
