As a story of one man's quest for Gods, or at least the 20th century counterpart thereof- 'spirituality' in the light of science and reason it stands out from many similar accounts. Alper starts with a bias towards Gods and ends up by reducing them to a cognitive dissonance reduction strategy with survival advantages. For this I give him high praise. He is prepared to stare into the dawn of nothing and accept it as Russell did when he said that his philosophy was based on a firm foundation of unyielding despair.
