The remainder of the second volume of the Elementarbuch, is filled with extracts from Xeno phon, Herodotus, and Thucydides, which are omitted here, both that. The Work might not be swelled beyond its proper size, and because several of the extracts from these authors ap pear scardely adapted to the degree of proficiency, expected at our schools. From the third volume of the Elementarbuch, which bears in the original the name of Socrates, and contains extracts from Plato and other Greek philosophers, nothing has been taken, for the same reasons.
