There appeared to be some demand for a practical work on these lines, so his notes have been enlarged for publication. The Author decided to commence at the beginning of the subject, and to explain the evolution which had to take place in internal combustion work before the modern motor car could become a commercial possibility. The funda mental principles governing the action of the engine are discussed under the heading of Gas Engines the action of these larger and somewhat cruder machines is more easy to grasp.
