Top drawer Skvorecky remains The Engineer of Human Souls, The Swell Season, The Bass Saxophone. Dvorak in Love comes close.
But the stories in this collection are little more than pale and fuzzy reflections of those earlier work. Even a devoted fan will be disappointed. Better to re-read the best stuff.
