This book traces Peter Howard, who was to become one of The Wooden Horse escapers, from his being shot down, through his capture, interrogation and first two POW camps. It gets into the mind of a man determined to escape his captors. The book arrived early and was in excellent condition (points for that!). However, I was disappointed to find that I had unknowingly bought the abridged ("edited") version "for younger readers". This had not been specified in the description of the book and I think it *should have been*: I am no longer a "younger reader" and would not have been fazed by what had been cut out (according to a friend, a few strong words and three or four passages which could have been read either as close friendship or as homoeroticism).
