Seller's Description:
Good in Good jacket. John Keir Cross (1914-1967) was a Scottish editor and author, known for his BBC radio scripts of horror stories and children's science fiction. All his sf novels are intended for sophisticated Young Adult readers, the most important of them being the Mars sequence comprising The Angry Planet (1945) and its sequel, SOS from Mars (1954; and The Red Journey Back 1954). The tales are presented as Cross's transcription of manuscripts composed "by Stephen MacFarlane", and encompass the first three expeditions to Mars, which discover the vegetable life there to have suffered a Manichaean Evolution into alternative races. The Angry Planet is considered a classic in children's science fiction. This copy is good in orange cloth with green titles on the spine. There is fading and damp staining on the covers and a bit of the title has worn off the spine. The text is slightly age toned, but very clean, with no marks or damage. The clipped DJ has minor chipping at the edges as well as minor soiling. First editions are uncommon, particularly with dust jackets. CH25.
