P. T. Forsyth's view on the afterlife and the proof therein is multi-faceted, dealing with issues of immortality, God, eternity and the nature of time. The author begins by noting the brevity of human existence; life is a brief and transient experience, and the fleetingness of our time on Earth leads the author to consider the moral reasoning behind immortality. The notion that considering oneself immortal is egoistic leads the author to distinguish between Christ - who was both self-sacrificing and assertive of His role as the everlasting - and less spiritually profound declarations of eternal life. Provocative and thoughtful, Forsyth tackles a range of matters pertinent to life after death. The psychological reality of confronting one's mortality, particularly as death nears, is discussed. Noting that the study of human spirituality as a facet of the psyche is ongoing, the author embarks on a discussion of human attitudes to death and how the memory works when judging life. Owing to the mind's outlook, we realize how vastly attitudes and mental states vary in any given person on their deathbed. A theologian who studied a variety of holy texts for decades, Peter Taylor Forsyth's commentaries and lectures were published in the early 20th century, and brim with timeless spiritual insights. The author's academic experiences with the philosophy of religion and Christian holy texts led him to author informed and convincing analyses, most of which were met with approval by fellow scholars and readers.
