This usually happens with the plants next to TRANSPLANTING WITH BERRY-BOXES AND WITHOUT BERRY-BOXES. the north board or outside.edges, where the planks absorb the moisture. If the plants turn blue in the cold-frame they need working to let more heat into the soil. Sometimes a severe chilling will make them look blue, but scratching among them will usually do them much good. Some use setboxes five inches square to set in, made just like a strawberry quart, except they have no bottom in them. By filling them on a smooth iilank, and giving a good pressure, the dirt will adhere every time, facilitating matters very much in setting in the field; but it requires more water in the beds, as there are so many crevices, and the timber dry the soil very fast. The following description of the cut on adjoining page is taken from Gleanings In Bee Cultuke, of May 15,1892: The picture gives a nice idea of the way in which the cloth frame, double width, is constructed, except that the engraver has shown the stakes, that hold the plank sides, on the inside of the bed instead of the outside.
