The first is that in the whole of our angling literature there was no book which told the story of the modern development of trout-fishing in reservoirs and explained the theory and practice of this branch of our sport. The second reason, which is more personal, is that I have taken a deep interest in this subject for at least twenty years, and it therefore appeared not unseemly that I should be the one to try and fill the gap.
