Callie McKenzie's life had been one stuff up after another. Orphaned at the age of 13, no loss when her mother had been a drug addicted prostitute who had no idea how to care for her daughter. Life finally seemed to take a turn for the better when a kindly couple offered adoption, but as usual, tragedy struck and she ended up on a isolated property with an abusive distant relative. "Hundreds or thousands of books on Lincoln and his assassination have been produced since "Twenty Days" was first published , but none have yet matched its haunting majesty.
The Kunhardt's reverential yet strictly unsentimental characterization of our country's premier demigod and their comprehensive account of his fascinating contemporaries makes their 21st century counterparts seem like indifferently assembled androids by comparison.
No publisher today would dare to illustrate even a definitive work half as copiously as "Twenty Days" is illustrated. No book I've ever read has done a better job of not just telling you , but then showing you. "Twenty Days'" "everything black" evocation of the somber mood of the survivors of our nation's greatest catastrophe and its shattering climactic act is perfectly captured.
The Kunhardt's achievement stands as tall and as deservedly prestigious as its subject. The impact this book would have on our nation's future cast if it were required reading for our schoolchildren is staggering to imagine. Other authors considering a treatment of the same subject should scrupulously reexamine themselves alongside this definitive standard.
"Twenty Days" is an unequaled and timeless masterpiece."

Awesome Book
This book takes you back in time. With all the photos of the stuff going on at the time, it is almost like you are right there.... There are a few things in the book that I didn't know about Lincoln, and I've read about him for most of my life. Wonderful book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to investigate anything about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
