This is a specialist book for specialists. It is intended for those interested in visual astronomy of deep-space objects. Dr. Clark did original research (both in searching the literature and in actual practice) and concluded that much of the conventional wisdom regarding deep-space observing was wrong. Particularly, he recommends much high magnification than most other sources do.
The heart of the book is a series of ninety deep-space objects, illustrated both with photographs and the author's pencil sketches, which represent what an observer will actually see through a modest size telescope. The book gives a wealth of technical detail on viewing technique. If visual deep-space astronomy is your interest, this is your book.
