Incredible
For the active Christian seeking a new depth of understanding, refreshing perspectives, and challenging stories to increase one's faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, I can reccomend few books better than this one. It is written in multiple short story format so that it is easy to read for just a bit and put down to meditate or pray or do otherwise.
I have cried my way through this book both with joy and sorrow as I read about the stories of saints and sinners about to face the rest of eternity.
The book is very direct, not offering excuses or attempting to interpret the stories presented, but it is certainly presented as a book by a Christian that was organised more than written. The stories are all taken from pre-existing sources, and all bear the mark of reality in their unexpectedness and rawness. This book displays some wonderful examples of the beauty of Christ-like character often faced with torture and death. It displays the horror of facing death without Christ, and the radiant joy of facing any physical death - peaceful or violent - with Christ before you. Those who reject Christ do so for various reasons, and express various attitudes at the end, from dismay, to horror, rage, sadness and anguish but never apathy. Those who have accepted Christ are not immune from fear at all times, but all are given strength and peace at the right times. I cannot reccomend this book highly enough.
