Hallowed be your name! has been interpreted in many different ways: positions vary from an eschatological to an ethical understanding of the petition. However, there is not even a consensus that the sentence is a petition, since it has also been seen as a doxology. Primarily presenting and categorizing the different views of Catholic, Protestant and Jewish scholars, the survey secondarily also examines the prayer's interpretation from a wider concept of reception history including sermons, literature of edification or visual arts, e.g. picture postcards from World War I. Finally, the survey goes back to Matthew's and Luke's versions of what it might mean to hallow the name. German description: Die Namensheiligung hat im Laufe der Auslegungsgeschichte sehr verschiedene Deutungen erfahren; auch in der heutigen Forschung reichen die Interpretationen von einem ethischen bis hin zu einem eschatologischen Verstandnis als Bitte. Die Autorin praferiert eine doxologische Interpretation. Primar widmet sich die Untersuchung der Aufarbeitung des Forschungsdiskurses zwischen katholischen, evangelischen und judischen Positionen im 20. Jahrhundert - die umfassendere Wirkungsgeschichte wird sekundar berucksichtigt, indem das Verstandnis der Namensheiligung in homiletischen, erbaulichen und kunstlerischen Werken wie z.B. auf Feldpostkarten untersucht wird.
