Dr. Arturo Sanchez-Azofeifa is a professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta and serves as the director of the University's Centre for Earth Observation Sciences (CEOS). Dr. Arturo Sanchez-Azofeifa is a professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta and serves as the director of the University's Centre for Earth Observation Sciences (CEOS). His research combines remote sensing with ground-based wireless sensor networks to enhance environmental monitoring and climate change assessment in tropical dry forests. Dr. Sanchez-Azofeifa has received numerous accolades, including a Fulbright Fellowship, the Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellowship from Stanford University's Woods Institute for the Environment, the Canadian Forest Service Merit Award, and the Sir McMaster Fellowship from Australia's Commonwealth Science and Research Innovation Organization (CSIRO). Furthermore, he has been a fellow at the Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) at Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich, Germany, and he holds an adjunct professor position at the University of Helsinki, Finland. At the University of Alberta, he has been honoured with the Faculty of Science Research Award for Outstanding Contributions, the McCalla Research Professorship, and the Faculty of Science Research Fellowship, among many other distinctions.
